Navajeevana's 2009 Annual Report is
published
June 2010
Navajeevana's 2009 Annual Report has been
published and is now available to download. The report looks at our
achievements in 2009 and some of the challenges that this year
presented.

Kumarini Wickramasuriya, Navajeevana's Chairperson
said: "The end of thirty years of civil war and the scars that this has
left on the island’s physical and mental health gave us the opportunity
to think hard about what kind of a society we want to create. At
Navajeevana, we believe that the inclusion of people with disabilities
has to be at the centre of a civilised society.
"In 2009 I was honoured to receive the accolade of Zonta Woman of the
Year for contribution to social service. But for every award given in
recognition of woman’s empowerment, there are others facing hardship.
Many of these are touched by disability – caring for a
disabled child, becoming the breadwinner after a husband’s accident, or
being disabled themselves. That is why my greatest reward is not in
accolades, but in the faces of the families that Navajeevana has given
hope and dignity to.
"Our strength lies in the achievements of a vast network of people,
including those with disabilities, their families and friends in the
community, our staff team and volunteers, partners, funders and
friends. Without you all I would be a woman alone with a dream. I am
indebted to all of you for helping me turn my dream into reality, and I
look forward to another productive year."
The report was produced by Leonora Merry who volunteered for
Navajeevana in 2008 and continues to support us in our marketing and
communications.
