CBR: Sustainability

For a rehabilitation plan to be closed for good, it is not sufficient to merely mitigate the negative effects of disability and ensure that the person and family can cope with everyday living.

The final step in a rehabilitation plan would be to introduce the client to some means of independent living - a livelihood that can sustain the person and sometimes even the family. Such a step can allow a previously welfare dependent disabled individual to become a productive capable part of society. It would work wonders upon his personality and improve his sense of self worth.

However this proves to be a very challenging and difficult step in rehabilitation. Many client files still remain ‘open’ despite successful rehabilitation due to the inability to introduce him or her to a viable income generating avenue.

Income generation is therefore a vital aspect of Navajeevana's work. For more information, see the webpage on income generation.
