partnership is signed between the Sri Lanka Liaison Office of Germany’s
Christoffel-Blindenmission (CBM) and Navajeevana to provide Community
Based Rehabilitation for people with disabilities.

Navajeevana
establishes a rural eye hospital & clinic for the prevention of
blindness in the Hambantota District in partnership with CBM

Navajeevana
publishes a children's story book focusing on a disability friendly
theme in celebration of the 10th anniversary

The
audiological unit is opened. This enables Navajeevana to provide audio
testing, ear mould production and hearing aid distribution to clients
across the region.

Development
of a rehabilitation and social inclusion centre as a model Production
of custom made mobility equipment, prosthetics and orthotics in
partnership with Motivation. Navajeevana introduces an inclusive
education and income generation programme

Navajeevana
Development Alternatives built the inclusive village of
Navadivipurawara with 55 houses according to accessibility standards
and with basic furniture and equipment amounting to approximately
Rs.256 million

2007
Navajeevana
celebrates her 20th birthday in style with a drama and dance display
from children from all four special schools to an audience of
distinguished guests including the President of Sri Lanka.
More
people with disabilities in the Hambantota and Matara districts gain
access to Navajeevana’s services as the Community Based Rehabilitation
(CBR) unit extends its reach into the Dondra and Ambalantota Divisional
Secretariat regions.
Building work on Navajeevana’s unique and
accessible training centre at the Navajeevana centre commences.

1988
|
|
The
first preschool for children with special needs started under a mango
tree in Navajeevana’s Beliatta office premises. Pre-schools developed
into an integrated pre-schools programme providing early childhood
development / education for children with special needs.

1996
|
|
Navajeevana
becomes one of the first organisations to adapt to the Government’s
Community Based Programme for people with disabilities, with a holistic
approach
|

|
|
1999
|
|
Navajeevana
is nationally recognised when the Chairperson becomes a member of the
National Council for the Disabled.

|
|
|
2002
|
|
Navajeevana
becomes the first organisation in the Island to provide community
mental health development programmes in partnership with Basic Needs.
Navajeevana obtains permanent premises through the Government

|
2005
|
|
CBM
Germany approves a holistic approach for tsunami rehabilitation
designed by Navajeevana, including permanent housing, livelihood
support, community development and psychosocial intervention with focus
on people with disabilities and inclusion needs.
Navajeevana signs MOU with Government to build new houses for the
people of Kudawella, repair Tsunami damaged houses.
Partnership established with CBTD (Community Business and Technology
Developers) to benefit people with disabilities.

| 2008 |
Navajeevana’s
fully accessible rehabilitation and social inclusion centre is opened
to the
public, resulting in an increase in demand for its IBR services.
Chairperson
is named “eminent personality of the year” by Lions Club International,
and
Navajeevana gains its first CEO with personal experience of disability.
An
exciting new “responsible tourism” project is started in partnership
with Mercy
Corps. |
