Responsible tourism
As part of Navajeevana's
commitment to empower
people with disabilities, we have undertaken a responsible tourism
project in partnership with Mercy Corps.
This project will contribute
to the rehabilitation of marginalised groups including people with
disabilities and those affected by the tsunami, through providing them
with the skills and opportunities to make a valuable and lasting
contribution to local tourism.
Under this project, people with disabilities are being trained in the
production of quality and upmarket products, the sale of which will
benefit them and support Navajeevana’s services.
Coffee
shop
Our coffee shop offers a
totally
new experience situated in a
heritage home on a prestigious location over looking a palm garden, a
butterfly garden with wild flowers of Sri Lanka and the spectacular
Tangalla Bay. Highlights include:
- Tea served in the original village
style
- Traditional home made snacks
- Herbal or fresh vegetable soups
- Tropical fresh fruit juices in
fascinating combinations
Craft shop
We have recently opened our craft shop at the Tangalla premises. This
features a variety of traditional crafts and art work. People with
disabilities and tsunami affected people are trained in the production
of quality and upmarket products, to make a valuable and lasting
contribution to “responsible tourism”.
Through each purchase you will be “responsible” in contributing to a
valuable cause. Handloom weaving, hand made lace, oil paintings, child
art, hand embroidery and many other traditional crafts will be revived
to express the dedication and abilities of our special people.
